The Side Project Three | Music & Sound and The Moving Image

The third event in THE SIDE PROJECT screening series will be focused on Music & Sound and The Moving Image, exploring the integration of visuals with music and sound.

CLICK HERE TO RSVP TO THE EVENT.  We look forward to seeing you.

The eight films are:

  • BRASILIA : Benjamin Dickinson
  • FAREWELL: Thibault Debaveye
  • SLIP: Chelsea McMullen
  • I KNOW THE TRUTH: Dustin Bowser and Andrew Ciaccio
  • THE FUTURE IS SLOW COMING : James Lees
  • THE MANGROVE: Duncan Ferguson
  • UNTIL THE QUIET COMES: Khalil Joseph
  • WAVES OF GRACE : Chris Milk

WAVES OF GRACE, a virtual reality film, will be presented in a separate room with two VR headsets for a full experience.

There will be a panel with a number of the directors after the 60-minute screening, discussing the impact and inspiration that sound and music had on their visual execution.  Eddie Kim, sound designer for "Waves of Grace," will join to discuss the changing landscape of sound in the virtual space.

Silence [in cinema] is when the buzzing of a fly on the window pane fills the whole room with sound, and the ticking of a clock smashes time into fragments with sledgehammer blows.

A Special Night | Sonic Highways Premiere

October 17th, 2014, we celebrated the culmination of a year-long journey, with a premiere party and screening of the first episode of the Foo Fighters series "Sonic Highways".  In conjunction with director and Foo frontman Dave Grohl, Therapy executive produced, edited, sound designed, graphic designed, and basically wrangled the s*^t out of this amazing project, which aired on HBO with eight episodes to critical and audience acclaim.

An Auspicious Beginning | Friday the 13th

THE SIDE PROJECT series evolved out of a number of informal screening events we've done over the past couple years, simply from the desire to showcase projects that we and our friends and partners have done.

Over time, we've realized that we aren't the only ones sitting on great creative work!  And so THE SIDE PROJECT was born.

Our first screening was in October 2012, and featured work and collaborations that have continued to the present.  "Black Magic" was a music video co-directed by Kristin McCasey and Anna Mastro, and produced by Therapy.  Anna and Kristin recently worked on another project together, a feature titled "Walter," which premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January 2015 to critical acclaim.  "Food For Thought" is a short film directed by Will Hartman that premiered at SXSW.  And "Under God" is a short film directed by Richard Farmer, director at Green Dot Films.

In 2012, we hosted another successful screening with "Bench Seat", another film by Anna Mastro, and "The Young Artie Feldman" by director Erik Moe.
